Bajaj Finserv has appointed Deepak Reddy as CEO designate of Bajaj General Insurance, marking a leadership transition at the general insurer scheduled for 2027. Reddy will take over as Managing Director and CEO from April 1, 2027, subject to regulatory approval, while current chief executive Tapan Singhel will continue in the role until March 31, 2027.
According to the company’s announcement dated October 23, Reddy’s CEO-designate role will begin on January 1, 2027. The transition period is intended to support continuity in leadership and operations at the insurer, which is part of the Bajaj Finserv group.
Deepak Reddy Brings Three Decades of Experience
Reddy brings more than 30 years of experience across financial services and related sectors. He has held senior positions at Bajaj Finserv, American Express, Standard Chartered Bank and MIRC Electronics, and previously served as CEO of Manappuram Finance.
During his 17-year association with Bajaj Finserv, Reddy led the rural, insurance and gold-loan businesses at Bajaj Finance. He also served as the group’s first Head of Human Resources, giving him experience across both business operations and organisational leadership.
His appointment places an experienced group executive at the helm as Bajaj General Insurance prepares for its next phase of growth. The insurer’s priorities will include maintaining customer service, managing claims and distribution, and adapting to changes in India’s competitive and regulated general insurance market.
Tapan Singhel’s 15 Year Leadership Comes to an End
Singhel has been associated with Bajaj General Insurance since its inception in 2001 and became MD and CEO in 2012. During his tenure, the insurer expanded its distribution and digital services while building its presence across retail insurance segments.
His planned departure at the end of March 2027 will close a 15 year stint as chief executive. The transition gives the company a three-month CEO-designate period before Reddy is scheduled to take charge, subject to approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
What the Leadership Change Means for Bajaj General Insurance
The transition brings together two priorities: continuity under Singhel through March 2027 and a change in leadership from April. Reddy’s experience across lending, insurance and human resources within the Bajaj group could help him navigate the insurer’s business and organisational priorities.
For the insurance sector, the key test will be how the company maintains service standards, distribution momentum and customer trust through the transition. Reddy’s appointment is announced, but his formal elevation to MD and CEO remains subject to regulatory approval.
