Adani Power reported a 142% year on year increase in net profit to Rs 7,019.32 Cr in Q2 FY27, supported by higher electricity demand, improved tariff realisations and one-time revenue recognition. Revenue from operations rose 29.8% to Rs 17,014.06 Cr in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, according to the company’s statement reported by The Unicorn Magazine.
The earnings growth also reflects a significant prior-period revenue adjustment. Adani Power recognised Rs 2,422.25 crore in prior period revenue during the quarter, mainly due to revisions in historic energy charges under certain power purchase agreements (PPAs). The comparable amount in Q2 FY26 was Rs 668.53 Cr.
Adani Power Q2 FY27: Key Financial Highlights
-
Net profit: Rs 7,019.32 crore, up around 142% year on year.
-
Revenue from operations: Rs 17,014.06 crore, up 29.8%.
-
Profit before tax: Rs 4,369.51 crore, up 32.5%.
-
Finance costs: Rs 760.23 crore, down 9.7% from Rs 841.63 crore a year earlier.
-
H1 FY27 net profit: Rs 11,885.92 crore, up 91.4% from Rs 6,211.59 crore.
Adani Power attributed revenue growth to higher electricity volumes, stronger demand, higher tariffs under PPAs linked to imported coal prices and improved merchant realisations. Lower finance costs also supported the quarter’s performance.
One-Time Revenue Recognition Lifts the Profit Picture
The Rs 2,422.25 crore prior-period revenue recognition is important when assessing the quarter. It relates mainly to the revision of historic energy charges under certain PPAs and is not the same as recurring revenue generated from electricity supplied during the quarter.
That distinction matters for investors. While higher electricity demand and improved realisations supported operating performance, the one time adjustment contributed to reported earnings and should be considered separately when assessing the sustainability of profit growth.
Profit before tax increased 32.5% to Rs 4,369.51 crore, a much slower rate than the reported 142% rise in net profit. This gap reinforces the need to look beyond the headline net-profit figure and examine tax effects, one off items and underlying operations.
Adani Power Plans 23,720 MW of New Thermal Capacity
Adani Power said it is progressing with a capacity expansion programme to add 23,720 MW of new thermal power capacity. The plan comes as India’s electricity demand and need for reliable generation remain important factors for power producers.
Expanding generation capacity can create opportunities to serve future demand, but it also requires significant capital, fuel supply and project execution. The company’s ability to bring new capacity online while maintaining cost discipline will be important to its longer-term performance.
What Adani Power’s Results Mean
The quarter shows stronger revenue, lower finance costs and a sharp increase in reported net profit. However, the one-time revenue adjustment means the headline growth rate should not be read as a direct measure of recurring earnings momentum.
For investors and industry observers, the key measures to watch are electricity volumes, tariff realisations, operating performance, cash flow and the pace of capacity additions. These indicators will help show whether the company can sustain growth beyond the current quarter’s exceptional revenue recognition.
