Ionage, an AI-powered energy management platform for electric vehicle (EV) charging, has raised $1.3 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by strategic investors and a consortium of CXOs from global energy and infrastructure companies.
The fresh capital will help Ionage expand its coverage across India's growing EV charging networks, improve charger discovery and payment options, and support small and medium-sized charge point operators (CPOs) in setting up and managing charging stations.
Founded by Vimal Kumar V
Ionage is led by Co-founder and CEO Vimal Kumar V, who said the company is working to solve the fragmentation between charge point operators, EV hardware makers, property owners and EV users.
The company's goal is to make different charging networks work together more smoothly, allowing EV users to find, access and pay for chargers across multiple networks through a connected platform.
25,000+ Chargers Across India
Ionage has already onboarded more than 25,000 four-wheeler charge points and supports over 63 EV fleets across the country.
The company works with more than 75 charging partners and has a presence across 33 states and Union Territories, covering nearly 3,000 cities.
Ionage says its platform operates across more than 70% of India's charging hardware, connecting with major EV charging manufacturers during the installation stage.
Its solutions are used across different locations, including offices, shopping malls, hotels and residential housing societies.
Making EV Charging Easier
India's EV charging market has grown quickly, but users still face problems such as finding working chargers, dealing with different operators and making payments across separate networks.
Ionage is trying to solve this through an interoperability layer that connects different charging networks.
Its products include Nexus, an operations platform for charge point operators; the IONAGE App, which allows users to discover, plan, charge and pay; Flo, a CPO-fleet discovery marketplace; and CASA, a home charging management solution.
The company also has a Discovery API and business SDK currently in closed beta.
AI for Better Energy Management
Ionage is also using artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve energy management and load balancing across its charging network.
The company plans to support new CPO micro-clusters in Tier II cities over the next 18 months.
It expects to process more than 20 million units of energy every month within the next 12 months, supported by monthly growth of more than 25%.
India Needs More EV Chargers
The funding comes at a time when India's public EV charging infrastructure is still developing.
Ionage says nearly two in five public chargers can be non-functional at a given time, while India had roughly one public charger for every 235 EVs in 2025.
Research by CII and ORF estimates that India's charging infrastructure will need to grow more than 40 times by 2030. The country could require over 1.32 million public chargers to support more than 30 million electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
As of early 2026, India had more than 30,000 public chargers, with around 22,750 operational.
Government programmes such as FAME and PM E-DRIVE are also supporting the expansion of EV charging infrastructure. PM E-DRIVE has a proposed allocation of Rs 2,000 Cr for charging infrastructure.
Building a More Connected Charging Ecosystem
With the latest funding, Ionage wants to expand its network, bring more charging operators onto its platform and make EV charging simpler for users and businesses.
As India's EV adoption grows, platforms that can connect different charging networks, improve charger availability and manage energy more efficiently could play an important role in building a cleaner and more reliable EV ecosystem.
