Indian AI commerce platform Glance has secured a strategic investment from consumer-focused investment firm L Catterton, issuing fresh equity shares to bring the global investor on board. The investment amount and valuation have not been disclosed.

Backed by Jio Platforms, Glance is seeking to move beyond conventional online shopping, using artificial intelligence to help consumers discover products and make shopping more personalised. The investment brings a consumer-focused global firm into the company’s shareholder base as it expands its presence across mobile and television screens.

Naveen Tewari, founder and CEO of InMobi and Glance, said L Catterton’s investment reflects confidence in the company’s approach to shopping, which aims to move beyond search towards agentic commerce, where AI can help guide product discovery and the buying journey.

L Catterton Backs Glance’s Agentic Commerce Strategy

L Catterton invests in consumer businesses across multiple sectors and manages approximately $40 Bn in equity capital, according to the company’s announcement. Its investment in Glance is intended to pair the platform’s technology and distribution with the investor’s consumer-sector expertise and global network.

Scott Dahnke, global CEO of L Catterton, said AI-led commerce is creating opportunities for brands to make shopping more personal and engaging. He also pointed to Glance’s distribution across devices as a factor in its potential to reach consumers.

The financial terms of the transaction have not been made public. The company has confirmed that the investment involves the issue of fresh equity shares, but has not disclosed the amount raised or the resulting ownership stake.

Glance’s Previous Funding and Valuation

The investment marks Glance’s first reported funding round in more than four years. In February 2022, Jio Platforms agreed to invest $200 million in Glance as part of its Series D round. At the time, media reports put the company’s valuation at approximately $1.7 billion to $1.8 billion.

Before that, Glance raised $145 million in December 2020 in a round led by Google, with existing investor Mithril Capital also participating. Mithril had initially invested $45 million in September 2019

Glance has not disclosed its valuation following the latest investment. The earlier valuation should therefore be treated as historical, not as an indication of the terms of the new deal.

Expanding Across Smartphones and Connected TVs

Glance places content and shopping discovery on screens consumers already use, including smartphone lock screens and connected televisions. The company has partnerships with Samsung, Motorola and DIRECTV in the United States, and has expanded its Android TV presence in the US, India and Japan through a collaboration with Google.

This distribution model is central to Glance’s strategy: instead of relying only on consumers opening a shopping app or searching for products, it aims to introduce relevant content and shopping opportunities directly through device experiences.

The commercial test will be whether personalised discovery translates into meaningful purchases for brands and a useful experience for consumers. L Catterton’s consumer-sector expertise and international network could help Glance develop those relationships, though the investment’s impact will take time to assess.

What the Investment Means for India’s AI Commerce Market

The deal highlights a shift in digital commerce from search-led shopping towards AI-assisted discovery. Rather than waiting for consumers to type a query, agentic commerce platforms aim to understand preferences, recommend products and help users move through the buying process.

For Glance founder Naveen Tewari, the opportunity is to turn its screen-based distribution into a shopping channel that benefits both consumers and brands. The new investment gives the company another strategic partner as it pursues that ambition.

However, the funding amount, valuation and specific growth targets remain undisclosed. The next indicators to watch will be Glance’s expansion across devices and markets, brand adoption and evidence that its AI-led shopping experience can generate sustained commercial value.
