Northwood Space, the satellite communications infrastructure startup co-founded and led by Bridgit Mendler, has raised $375 million in a Series C funding round co-led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and DFJ Growth. The latest funding values the California-based company at $2 billion, according to Axios, as it looks to expand its global network connecting satellites with ground stations.

Announced on November 2, 2026, the equity financing will help Northwood accelerate existing contract deliveries, expand its workforce and build out its ground infrastructure for commercial, government and allied space missions.

Alongside the equity round, the company has also secured a separate, multi-year credit facility from HSBC Innovation Banking. The size and financial terms of the facility have not been disclosed.

Other investors participating in the Series C include Alpine Space Ventures, Washington Harbour Partners, StepStone Activate and In-Q-Tel (IQT).

What Does Northwood Space Do?

Founded by Bridgit Mendler, Griffin Cleverly and Shaurya Luthra, Northwood Space is building technology that helps satellites communicate with Earth.

Its products include antennas, software and ground-network infrastructure designed to support satellite tracking, command, control and data transmission.

The company's approach focuses on building a shared, multi-orbit ground network that can serve multiple satellite operators rather than requiring every mission to depend on separately developed infrastructure.

Northwood has developed two key antenna systems, Portal and Prism, designed for satellite command-and-control operations and high-throughput data links, respectively.

The business is targeting a growing requirement in the space industry: ground infrastructure that can keep pace with the increasing number of satellites being launched into orbit.

$49.8 Million US Space Force Contract Adds to Business Momentum

The latest funding follows a $100 million Series B round announced in January 2026, which was led by Washington Harbour Partners and co-led by Andreessen Horowitz.

Around the same time, Northwood secured a three-year contract worth approximately $49.8 million from the US Space Force to support its Satellite Control Network.

The network plays an important role in tracking and controlling military satellites, supporting launches and early satellite operations, and providing communication links.

Since its previous funding round, Northwood says it has deployed six multi-orbit-capable sites across two continents and opened a 185,000-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility in Torrance, California.

Bridgit Mendler's Journey From Entertainment to Space Technology

Bridgit Mendler, best known for her earlier career as an actress and singer, is now leading Northwood as its co-founder and CEO.

Her move into the space industry represents a shift from entertainment into a technically demanding infrastructure business.

Rather than building satellites or launch vehicles, Northwood is concentrating on the ground-based systems that allow satellites to remain connected with operators on Earth.

For the broader space economy, this infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as commercial satellite operators, governments and defence agencies require reliable communication networks.

With $375 million in fresh equity funding and additional banking support, Mendler's company is now preparing to expand its manufacturing capacity and international ground network.

The bigger opportunity for Northwood lies in making satellite connectivity more accessible, scalable and reliable as the global space industry expands.
